Soooo...it's been a little while. Let me tell you, two kids is waaay more work than one. But also way more fun. I'm having a blast watching these two interact, especially now that my 1 year old (yes ONE) is walking and running and being a little goofball.
Whenever I can find a little time, like when I can actually get the kids to nap at the same time or after they go to bed at night, I am in my studio sewing or making new patterns or just daydreaming about new projects. There's never enough time in the day for all the stuff I want to try, and don't even get me started about finding time to write again. Not gonna happen for a while, I think!
I've been working primarily on custom Original Sock Dogs so I thought I'd share a few with you. Here are the latest:
Billie, the Jack Russell
Miagi, the Devon Rex
Bongo and Rosie
Also getting back to making some little mohair bears, and teaching myself some new bear-making techniques. I've been taking a look at some of the fantastic work that other plush artists are doing, like Melisa of Melisa's Bears and have been very inspired to get more serious about refining my own patterns and abilities.
Here's little Moby, who arrived in my etsy shop this week.
I used sparse German Schulte mohair for this 6" bear and thread jointed him. I'd like to start using cotter pins and disc joints once I learn a bit more about what sizes to buy and how to best "install" them. It'd be nice to make some bears that were a bit bigger, and to do that, you really have to use the regular joints. Not sure why I'm so drawn to this...I guess it comes from wanting to make the images in my head and on paper come to life for others to enjoy. Once I get the bears figured out, I'm hoping to make some more detailed dogs, cats, etc out of mohair too--it's such a fun material to work with!
