A recent tale of two abandoned dogs, from shelter and Ray of Hope director, Karen Sands.
There were complaints of feral dogs at Quindaro Park in Kansas City, KS. Upon further examination it was determined that it was a female in heat that was attracting a pack of dogs. Only two turned out to be strays, a Husky/Shepherd mix and a Shepherd mix. Karen named them Sonny and Cher after the famous singing duo from the 1960s and 1970s. Karen and Captain Smith worked with both dogs for several weeks to help build their trust. One way they would do this was to bring them food on a daily basis.
Eventually the dogs started to run to the Animal Control truck to greet them! Then, when the dogs realized they could trust Karen and Captain Smith the dogs allowed them to pet them.
Sonny and Cher were not feral at all. They were just "surviving" after obviously being abandoned.
Karen was able to put a leash on the two dogs and they were easily loaded into the KCK Animal Control truck. They were saved through Ray of Hope and have now been transferred to Pet Connection to find their forever home. If you'd like to support the Ray of Hope program and help other homeless pets like Sonny and Cher, make your donation online or mail a check to HSGKC, Attn: Ray of Hope, 5445 Parallel Parkway, KCK 66104.
"This was one of the most rewarding one on one projects with dogs I have had so far," said Karen about the rescue experience.
Just got the glamour shots taken of my artwork for this year's Art Unleashed and thought I'd share them with you. Unfortunately, you do need to be present at the event to bid (see event details below the photos). Let me know what you think of the little mohair dog and cat, and if you'd be interested in seeing more of these in the shop.
