Here's Fenwick. He's a brown hare with flushed cheeks from all his crazy hopping.
Born: February 24, 2009 Breed: Bunny, trouser socks Height: 9.5" (sitting, including ears)
"These feet were made for hopping, and that's just what they'll do! I once bounced my way from New York City to San Francisco with only one stop along the way for a triple shot of carrot juice. Deeee-licious!"
I'll be posting another Original Sock Dog this evening...can't stay away from my mutts for too long!
So I had these socks that were just crying out to be made into a bunny.
Born: February 23, 2009 Breed: Bunny, trouser socks Height: 9.5" (sitting, including ears)
"I don't plan on hopping down any bunny trails this year, no sir. I'd prefer to spend my Easter sampling all the delectable sprouts in the neighborhood gardens. Veggies are so very tender and delicious when they've just started to pop out of the ground. I quite enjoy being a rogue Easter Bunny, you know."
By the way, today is National Spay Day! I'd tell you to celebrate, but I'm not sure what exactly to suggest. In any case, just remember how full the shelters are and how we can all help to make sure our pets aren't adding to the problem.
Have you heard about this great web site? It's basically a portal site through which you can shop other online retailers like the Apple Store and eBay, and have a percentage of your purchase donated to the animal charity of your choice!
Try it out--there are a ton of great sites where you probably already shop, so why not make your dollars count even more?
The annual pet telethon benefiting the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is coming up this Sunday, February 15and you guys will be there! That's right--Original Sock Dogs (aka me) will be presenting one of those big cardboard checks on air, thanks to all of you who purchased a sock dog in the past year.
I'm planning to have my husband record the segment with my digital camera, but as I'm not too sure of his skills with the thing, I can't promise I'll have it for the blog. Fingers crossed.
If you're in the KC area, please tune in! The show runs from 6:30-9:30 PM and will be airing on "38 The Spot" (channel 8 on cable).
Thanks again for helping me to support this awesome no-kill shelter. See you on Sunday!
It's hard to get a good picture of Dandy outside, because every time I come near her with the camera, she crawls (yes, crawls) closer to me for a tummy rub.
Apart from volunteering, I'm still working on a bunch of customs and my studio is filled with assorted, half-completed sock dogs and cats. It's an organized mess. In other words, my husband takes one look in there and sighs. But I know where everything is, so it's all good.
Here are a couple of kitties in progress:
The sock cats, especially the "tabbies" are soooo much more challenging than the sock dogs--all those stripes! So in a way, I'm glad the dogs are more popular! But not to leave you thinking I don't like cats, here are a couple photos of my babies, Nemo (the tux) and Apollo (the gray tabby with attitude):
(You'd never guess he was 13!)
Stay tuned this week...I'll be doing a fun little contest in honor of Valentine's Day.
