I've just been given a really nice blog award from Sue, and it couldn't have come at a better time.
I don't know how deserved it is, since I feel like all I've been doing lately is complaining about the CPSIA. Grrr...but I won't go there again right now.
I do apologize for the lack of posts lately. We've all been sick with one thing or another, and the terrible twos have arrived a little early for my daughter. Day long tantrums paired with a flu bug don't make for a very happy or creative household.
I did get back to the shelter on Saturday, despite not being 100%, and spent as much time as I could with each dog. Since it was 30 degrees and sleeting outside, I just sat with them in their kennels and gave them some treats and TLC.
Atlas is still there, but is always so happy to see me and the special treats I bring just for him each week.
Gizmo was so happy to have me sit with him that he leaped, full-force, onto my lap and grunted and snored while I scratched his back and his ears.
I think the time I spent with them all was my best Christmas gift--it makes me very happy to give them the time and attention they so deserve. Even one day a week makes a world of difference to them. It also reinforces my determination to keep supporting them through my art. If the sock dogs become a casualty of the CPSIA, I will find another way!
I haven't brought my camera to the shelter in a few weeks, but I'll try to remember it next time and share some new photos with you. Hope you're all enjoying the holidays!
If you care about handmade items or really any kind of art, please go here. This law will affect handmade items beyond toys from what I've read. Anything that could potentially appeal to kids is in the crosshairs.
I'll post more on this later, but right now I'm too depressed.
Just finished this pup and she is one of my all time favorites. (I think I'm gonna have to start making more yellow labs!)
I just love those floppy arms. These guys are finally looking exactly as I intended.
OK, now onto the surprise winner. I've done drawings before, and posted in the etsy forums to get people to come to the blog and enter. But here's the thing...most of those people don't come back, and they only post so they can get something free. (Who can blame 'em, right?) But you guys are faithful readers and commenters, so I wanted to reward one of you, especially during this economic crunch and since it's the holidays, too. I listed all of your names (from the past month) and gave you each a number. I put the numbers into a random # generator and it chose #9.
SO...the winner is...Monica! The prize is anything (one item) from my shop. Totally free, including shipping. I plan to do another drawing soon, so if you're a silent lurker, now's the time to speak up!
Aidaen (My first Hairless Chinese Crested...what a great request! Of course, it's a bit tricky to make a sock "hairless" so I just trimmed the fuzz by hand and colored the sock to match his blue and pink skin.)
